How to Swap DOGEcoin to Bitcoin

Updated: October 2026

Yes, you can convert Dogecoin to Bitcoin — but you can’t do it by sending DOGE to a Bitcoin wallet address. Dogecoin and Bitcoin run on separate blockchains, so “transferring” DOGE to BTC always means exchanging it: through a swap in a wallet or a trade on an exchange’s DOGE/BTC market. This guide shows both, plus the costs, timing and the most common mistake.

Quick answer: open a wallet that holds both coins, tap Swap, choose DOGE → BTC, check the quote and confirm. BTC arrives at your Bitcoin address in the same app.

Why You Can't Just Send DOGE to a Bitcoin Wallet

A Bitcoin address only receives bitcoin, and a Dogecoin address only receives dogecoin — as Robinhood puts it, only bitcoin can be sent to a Bitcoin address (Robinhood). The two networks don’t see each other’s coins.

You can tell them apart by the first character:

  • Dogecoin addresses usually start with D (standard addresses); multisig and script addresses can start with A or 9 (SoChain).
  • Bitcoin addresses start with 1, 3 or bc1 (OneKey).

If a “Bitcoin wallet” shows you an address that starts with D, it’s actually the Dogecoin part of a multi-coin wallet — not a place where DOGE turns into BTC.

Swap DOGE for BTC in a Self-Custody Wallet

A swap sends DOGE from your Dogecoin address and delivers native BTC to your Bitcoin address — no exchange account needed.

  1. Make sure your wallet has both addresses: Dogecoin (D…) and Bitcoin (1…, 3… or bc1…).
  2. Open Swap and choose DOGE as the coin you pay with and BTC as the coin you receive.
  3. Enter the amount, leaving a little DOGE for the network fee.
  4. Check the quote — the BTC you’ll actually receive after fees and the estimated time.
  5. Confirm. BTC arrives after the Bitcoin transaction is confirmed.

In Walletverse

Walletverse - best crypto wallet

Walletverse is a self-custody wallet for iOS and Android that supports Dogecoin, Bitcoin and 700+ other cryptocurrencies and tokens. Its built-in aggregator connects 100+ DEX and CEX venues with more than 10,000 trading pairs. Open DOGE, tap Swap, select BTC and review the routes, rate and fees before you confirm.

Your private keys stay encrypted on your device behind a passcode and biometrics, and built-in AML checks (powered by Crystal) show an address’s risk level before you send.

Trade DOGE for BTC on an Exchange

Binance and Kraken both list a DOGE/BTC market (Binance, Kraken), and Binance also offers a one-step Convert (Binance Convert).

  1. Deposit DOGE to the exchange.
  2. Use Convert, or place a market or limit order on DOGE/BTC.
  3. Withdraw BTC to your own Bitcoin address — or keep it on the exchange.

If you use Robinhood, its self-custody Robinhood Wallet supports sending, receiving and swapping crypto on networks including Bitcoin and Dogecoin (Robinhood). Availability depends on your country.

Going the Other Way: BTC to DOGE

The reverse is the same process: BTC → DOGE in your wallet, or buy DOGE on the DOGE/BTC market. Make sure you receive DOGE to an address that starts with D. Guide: how to swap BTC to DOGE.

What You'll Pay and How Long It Takes

 What to expect
Dogecoin networkA new block about every minute
Bitcoin networkA new block about every 10 minutes; BTC payments can’t be reversed (bitcoin.org)
Swap or trading feeSet by the wallet’s provider or the exchange — compare the BTC you actually receive
Withdrawal feeExchanges may charge to withdraw BTC

Because one DOGE is worth only a tiny fraction of a bitcoin, check the quote carefully on small amounts — fixed fees can take a large share. The DOGE/BTC rate changes constantly; check the live quote right before you swap.

Cashing Out Dogecoin Instead

If you actually want dollars, you don’t need bitcoin first: sell DOGE for fiat on an exchange — Kraken, for example, has a DOGE/USD market (Kraken) — and withdraw to your bank. You can also swap DOGE to a stablecoin: how to swap Dogecoin to USDT. Walletverse doesn’t offer selling crypto for fiat yet.

Will Dogecoin Ever Be Worth Bitcoin?

Comparing the price of one DOGE with one BTC is misleading, because the supplies are very different. Bitcoin’s supply is capped at 21 million coins, while Dogecoin adds a fixed 10,000 DOGE per block — about every minute — with no maximum supply (Galaxy Research). We don’t make price predictions; both coins are volatile, and this guide isn’t financial advice.

Tax Note

In the US, the IRS treats digital assets as property, and exchanging one digital asset for another can create a taxable gain or loss (IRS FAQ). Check the rules where you live.
