How to Swap BNB to USDT

Updated: October 2026

Swapping BNB for USDT is one of the simplest swaps in crypto: if you stay on BNB Smart Chain (BSC), both coins live on the same network, so the trade takes one transaction and costs a small gas fee in BNB. The details that matter are which USDT you receive — BEP-20 on BSC, TRC-20 on TRON or ERC-20 on Ethereum — and where you swap: in a wallet, on a DEX or on an exchange.

Quick answer: in a wallet that supports BNB Smart Chain, open BNB, tap Swap, choose USDT (BEP-20), review the quote and confirm. Keep a little BNB for gas.

What You're Actually Swapping on BNB Smart Chain

  • BNB is the native coin of BNB Smart Chain; gas fees on BSC are paid in BNB (BscScan).
  • BEP-20 is the token standard for fungible tokens on BNB Smart Chain — so “USDT BEP-20” and “USDT on BSC” mean the same thing (Binance Academy).
  • USDT on BSC is a Binance-Peg token. BscScan lists the main USDT contract on BSC as “Binance-Peg BSC-USD” (BscScan). Tether’s own list of supported protocols names only XAU₮ (Tether Gold) for BNB Smart Chain, while USD₮ is issued natively on networks such as TRON and Ethereum (Tether).

It isn’t the same token as TRC-20 or ERC-20 USDT, so the network matters every time you send, deposit or withdraw it.

BEP-20 and ERC-20 addresses look the same (both start with 0x). Always choose the network explicitly — don’t rely on the address format.

Option A: Same-Chain Swap on BNB Smart Chain

This is the cheapest route: BNB and BEP-20 USDT are on one network, so you pay only BSC gas and the swap fee.

  1. Open your wallet and select BNB on BNB Smart Chain.
  2. Tap Swap and choose USDT (BEP-20) as the token to receive.
  3. Enter the amount, leaving some BNB for gas.
  4. Check the quote and slippage — the minimum USDT you’ll receive if the price moves while the transaction is processed.
  5. Confirm. The swap settles in one BSC transaction.

In Walletverse

Walletverse - best crypto wallet

Walletverse is a self-custody wallet for iOS and Android that supports BNB, USDT and 700+ other cryptocurrencies and tokens. Its built-in aggregator connects 100+ DEX and CEX venues — including PancakeSwap, 1inch and Binance — with more than 10,000 trading pairs, and shows the rate and fees before you confirm. Your private keys stay encrypted on your device behind a passcode and biometrics.

Option B: Convert or Trade BNB/USDT on Binance

Binance offers a one-step Convert from BNB to USDT and a BNB/USDT spot market for market and limit orders (Binance Convert, Binance). Kraken also lists a BNB to USDT conversion (Kraken).

  1. Deposit BNB to the exchange (on the network it specifies — usually BNB Smart Chain).
  2. Use Convert, or place an order on the BNB/USDT market.
  3. Withdraw USDT on the network you need — BEP-20, TRC-20 or ERC-20 — or keep it on the exchange.

An exchange is the easiest way to switch networks, because you can withdraw USDT to a different chain than the one you deposited BNB on. It requires an account and usually ID verification, and availability depends on your country.

Option C: Get USDT on TRON (TRC-20)

If you need TRC-20 USDT — for example, because the recipient only accepts TRON — you have two choices:

  • A cross-chain swap in a wallet or swap service that offers BNB (BSC) → USDT (TRC-20). Check the route, fee and estimated time before you confirm.
  • An exchange: convert BNB to USDT, then withdraw on the TRON network.

Once you hold TRC-20 USDT, Walletverse supports GasFree USDT transfers on TRON. For moving between TRX and USDT, see how to swap TRX to USDT.

Swapping USDT Back to BNB

The reverse is the same swap in the other direction: USDT (BEP-20) → BNB on BNB Smart Chain, or USDT → BNB on the Binance BNB/USDT market. One catch: to swap BEP-20 USDT, you need a small amount of BNB in the same wallet to pay gas. If you have none, buy a little BNB first or swap on an exchange.

How to Turn BNB Into Cash

To get money out of BNB Smart Chain, you need a service that pays out fiat: send BNB or USDT to a centralized exchange that supports withdrawals in your country, sell it for your local currency and withdraw to your bank. Swapping to USDT first can help you lock the dollar value while you move funds. Walletverse doesn’t offer selling crypto for fiat yet.

Mistakes That Cost Money

  • No BNB left for gas. Without BNB on BSC, you can’t move or swap your BEP-20 tokens.
  • Wrong network on withdrawal or deposit. Sending BEP-20 USDT to a TRON address — or choosing ERC-20 when the recipient expects BEP-20 — can lose funds or require a costly recovery.
  • Fake USDT tokens. On a DEX, check the token contract against BscScan before you confirm; tokens with similar names exist.
  • Ignoring slippage. On large swaps, a loose slippage setting can give you noticeably less USDT.
  • Taxes. In the US, the IRS treats digital assets as property, and swapping one for another can create a taxable gain or loss (IRS FAQ).

Crypto prices are volatile, and USDT’s value depends on its issuer. This guide explains how swaps work and isn’t financial advice.
