How to Swap BNB to BTC

Updated: October 2026

Yes, you can swap BNB for Bitcoin. BNB is the native coin of BNB Chain, and BTC lives on the Bitcoin network, so converting one into the other is a cross-chain swap: your BNB leaves your BNB Smart Chain address, and native BTC arrives at your Bitcoin address. You can do it in a wallet with a built-in swap, by trading the BNB/BTC pair on an exchange, or — if you want to stay on BNB Chain — by swapping BNB for BTCB, a token pegged to Bitcoin.

Quick answer: open a wallet that supports both BNB and BTC, choose Swap, select BNB → BTC, check the quote and confirm. Leave a little BNB in your wallet for network fees.

The BNB Beacon Chain was shut down on December 3, 2024, and its functions moved to BNB Smart Chain (BNB Chain docs). Today, the BNB you swap is almost always BNB on BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20).

Native BTC or BTCB: Decide First

Before you swap, decide what you want to receive:

  • Native BTC — real bitcoin on the Bitcoin network, sent to a Bitcoin address (1…, 3… or bc1…). Choose this if you want to hold bitcoin long term, send it to a hardware wallet or withdraw it to a Bitcoin-only service.
  • BTCB (Binance-Peg BTCB) — a BEP-20 token on BNB Smart Chain whose price is pegged to BTC (BscScan). It is issued by Binance, and each BTCB is backed by a BTC reserve, according to CoinMarketCap. Choose this if you want BTC price exposure while staying on BNB Chain — for example, to use it in BNB Chain DeFi apps.

BTCB is not the same as bitcoin: it depends on the issuer’s reserve, and you can’t send it to a Bitcoin address. If you send BTCB to a native BTC address (or the other way around), the funds can be lost.

Option 1: Swap BNB to BTC in a Wallet

A cross-chain swap in a self-custody wallet takes BNB from your BNB Smart Chain address and delivers native BTC to your Bitcoin address. You don’t need an exchange account.

  1. Open your wallet and make sure it has both a BNB (BNB Smart Chain) and a Bitcoin address.
  2. Choose Swap and select BNB → BTC.
  3. Enter the amount. Leave a small amount of BNB for the network fee — gas on BNB Smart Chain is paid in BNB (BscScan).
  4. Review the quote: the BTC amount you’ll receive, all fees and the estimated time. Quotes can change or expire if the market moves.
  5. Confirm. The BNB transaction is processed first; BTC arrives once the Bitcoin transaction is confirmed — roughly 10 minutes per block, plus the provider’s processing time.

Swap BNB to BTC in Walletverse

Walletverse - best crypto wallet

Walletverse is a self-custody wallet for iOS and Android that supports BNB, Bitcoin and 700+ other cryptocurrencies and tokens. Swaps run through a built-in aggregator that connects 100+ DEX and CEX venues — including PancakeSwap and Binance — with more than 10,000 trading pairs.

Open BNB in Walletverse, choose Swap and select BTC. The app shows the available routes, the rate and the fees before you confirm. Your private keys stay encrypted on your device, and the app is protected by a passcode and biometrics. Before you send funds to an unfamiliar address, you can check its risk level with the built-in AML checks (powered by Crystal).

Option 2: Trade BNB for BTC on an Exchange

Binance lists a BNB/BTC spot market (Binance) and also offers a one-step Convert from BNB to BTC (Binance Convert). The process:

  1. Deposit BNB to the exchange — on the network the exchange specifies (usually BNB Smart Chain).
  2. Use Convert, or open the BNB/BTC market and place a market or limit order.
  3. Withdraw BTC to your own Bitcoin address, or keep it on the exchange.

Exchanges give you order types such as limit orders, but your funds are held by the exchange while they’re there, and you’ll usually need a verified account. Availability depends on your country.

Option 3: Swap BNB to BTCB on BNB Chain

If you only need BTC price exposure on BNB Chain, swap BNB for BTCB on a decentralized exchange. PancakeSwap is a DEX that started on BNB Smart Chain (Binance Academy). The swap stays on one network, so you pay only BNB Smart Chain gas and the DEX fee. Before confirming, check the BTCB contract address against BscScan — fake tokens with similar names exist.

How to Swap BTC Back to BNB

The reverse works the same way: choose BTC → BNB in your wallet, or sell BTC on the BNB/BTC market on an exchange. Make sure you receive BNB on BNB Smart Chain (an address starting with 0x) and keep some BNB there for future gas fees. See our step-by-step guide on how to swap BTC to BNB.

Fees and Timing

Cost or delayWhat to expect
BNB Smart Chain gasPaid in BNB; usually small (BscScan Gas Tracker)
Bitcoin networkNew blocks roughly every 10 minutes; BTC payments are irreversible once confirmed (bitcoin.org)
Swap or trading feeSet by the wallet, swap provider or exchange — compare the final BTC amount, not just the rate
Withdrawal feeExchanges may charge to withdraw BTC to your wallet

The BNB/BTC rate changes every second, so we don’t quote it here. Check the live rate in your wallet or on the exchange right before you swap.

How to Turn BNB Into Cash

To get dollars or another local currency, you need a service that pays out fiat: sell BNB (or the BTC you received) on a centralized exchange and withdraw to your bank account, or use a wallet’s sell feature where it is available. Walletverse doesn’t offer selling crypto for fiat yet. Fees, limits and payout methods depend on the service and your country.

Do You Pay Taxes When Swapping BNB to BTC?

Possibly. In the US, the IRS treats digital assets as property, and exchanging one digital asset for another can create a taxable gain or loss (IRS FAQ). Rules differ by country — check with a tax professional where you live.

Safety Tips

  • Check the network. BNB on BNB Smart Chain uses 0x addresses; Bitcoin addresses usually start with 1, 3 or bc1. BTCB is not native BTC.
  • Keep BNB for gas. Without BNB on BNB Smart Chain, you can’t send tokens there.
  • Send a small test amount when you use a new address or service.
  • Double-check before confirming — Bitcoin payments can’t be reversed.
  • Keep your recovery details offline and never share them.
