How to Buy IOTA (MIOTA) in 2026
Updated: 13 October 2026
IOTA is still very much alive — but it has changed a lot. In May 2025 the network moved to IOTA Rebased, a new Layer 1 with validators, staking and small transaction fees, and many older guides (and wallets) are now out of date. This guide shows where you can buy IOTA today, how to buy it step by step, how to get it without an exchange account, and what to check before you buy.
Quick answer: IOTA trades on major exchanges such as Binance (IOTA/USDT). Create an account, deposit funds, buy IOTA on the spot market or with Convert, and withdraw it to a wallet that supports the current IOTA network. It is not tradable on Coinbase or Kraken as of October 2026.
MIOTA or IOTA? It’s the same coin. “MIOTA” (Mega IOTA, one million IOTA) is an old ticker some platforms still show; today the token is listed as IOTA (CryptoRadar, CoinGecko).

IOTA is a volatile, small-cap asset. Its price can rise or fall sharply, and nothing in this guide is investment advice.
What Is IOTA in 2026?
IOTA was originally designed as a feeless network for the Internet of Things. In December 2024, token holders voted for the IOTA Rebased protocol upgrade (IOTA Foundation), and the Rebased mainnet went live on 5 May 2025. Key changes:
- Delegated proof-of-stake with validators (up to 150 at launch) instead of the old Tangle design (IOTA).
- Staking: you can stake IOTA to earn rewards with no lock-up — start and stop at any time (IOTA Foundation). Rewards are not guaranteed.
- Small transaction fees — typically around 0.005 IOTA — instead of the original feeless model (Ledger).
Is IOTA built on Ethereum? No. IOTA runs its own Layer 1 network. Separately, there is an EVM-compatible IOTA EVM chain where a wrapped version (WIOTA) trades (CoinGecko).
Where to Buy IOTA
BinanceYesIOTA/USDT spot market and Convert (Binance)
| Platform | IOTA available? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Walletverse (self-custody wallet) | Via in-app swap, if a route is available | Buy USDT or another coin with a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, then swap to IOTA; no exchange account needed |
| Bitvavo | Yes | European exchange; IOTA can be bought with several payment methods (Bitvavo) |
| Coinbase | No | “IOTA is not tradable on Coinbase” (Coinbase) |
| Kraken | No | “This asset isn’t currently tradable” (Kraken) |
| Instant swap services | Yes, on some | For example, ChangeNOW lists IOTA (ChangeNOW) |
The IOTA Foundation says IOTA is traded on most major exchanges and advises checking that an exchange allows withdrawals if you want to move IOTA to your own wallet (IOTA Foundation). Availability depends on your country — check before you sign up.
How to Buy IOTA on an Exchange: Step by Step
- Pick an exchange that lists IOTA and is available in your country, such as Binance.
- Create and verify your account. Exchanges usually require identity verification.
- Deposit funds — fiat or another crypto such as USDT.
- Buy IOTA. Use Convert (choose USDT → IOTA, preview the quote, confirm) or place an order on the IOTA/USDT spot market.
- Withdraw to your own wallet (optional) — choose the IOTA network and a wallet that supports IOTA after the Rebased upgrade. See how to transfer crypto from an exchange to a wallet.
How to Buy IOTA Without an Exchange Account
- Swap in a wallet. If your wallet has a built-in swap and supports IOTA, you can swap another coin, such as USDT, into IOTA. In Walletverse, open the asset you hold, choose Swap and check whether a route to IOTA is available; swaps run through an aggregator of 100+ DEX and CEX venues.
- Instant swap services. Services such as ChangeNOW let you send one coin and receive IOTA at your wallet address. Compare the final amount you’ll receive and check the service’s terms.
- Buy another coin with a card, then swap. Many wallets let you buy crypto with a card; you can then swap it into IOTA if a route exists.
How to Buy and Store IOTA: Choosing a Wallet
You need a wallet that supports the current IOTA network. The IOTA Foundation’s official IOTA Wallet is a browser extension that supports staking and can be linked to a Ledger device (IOTA, Chrome Web Store). Older wallets have been retired: Trinity was deprecated in 2021 in favor of Firefly (GitHub), and the IOTA Ledger app no longer runs on the original Ledger Nano S (Ledger).

Fees and Risks to Check Before You Buy
- Trading or convert fee on the exchange, or the spread in a swap.
- Withdrawal fee when you move IOTA to your wallet.
- Network fee on IOTA — small, typically around 0.005 IOTA.
- Price risk: IOTA’s price is volatile; only invest what you can afford to lose.
- Old guides: information about Trinity, the Tangle “coordinator” or feeless transfers refers to the pre-Rebased network.
